BEATS Charity

BEATS

BEATS is a small charity, with no employees, only volunteers. It maintains a close and personal relationship between its supporters and projects, so that groups and individuals are able to choose to support people and projects to which they can relate. This video explains how and why BEATS started.

Myanmar 28/03/25

Elmer and his son Laurent have just returned from a second trip to Myanmar, having spent a week there with a YWAM team. They provided a) food for people in a slum area (see photo), b) rice, cooking oil and essential supplies for people in displacement camps and c) funds to local churches to enable them to help people in need. BEATS sent over £4,000 towards funding this trip; if you would like to replenish BEATS funds please use the 'Donate Now' button to give via Wonderful.org (no fees).

BEATS primarily operates in Indonesia, collaborating with five organisations. We partner with GBI Church in Ambon (E Indonesia) to aid earthquake victims through home rebuilding, child sponsorship and a start-up business loan program. Additionally in Sumatra (NW Indonesia) we work alongside YSI, which conducts disaster preparedness and runs micro enterprise schemes as well as YACAN who operate a Children's Home. YASERA helps communities with disaster preparedness along with health and development programmes in various locations in Indonesia.

Disaster Preparedness

In 2024, the Philippines was ranked as the most at risk country for extreme natural events or adverse climate change. The Metro Manila area is located over the West and East Valley Faults (100km long and 10km long respectively) which can cause strong earthquakes. BEATS have provided funds to YSI so they can run seminars for churches and communities in this area to train leaders, so that they can mitigate the effects of future disasters by identifying areas and people at the most risk and train the population on what to do in the event of such an emergency.

The Leunufna family (Dad, Mum, their 3 children aged 9,7 & 3) live in a house built on a steep slope. They were very afraid when the earthquake happened, the house was badly damaged and the foundations moved (see photo).
