Ambon

On 26th September 2019, a strong magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck Maluku, E Indonesia, near the provincial capital of Ambon. A total of 41 people were killed by the quake and another 1,578 people were injured. More than 6,000 structures were damaged or destroyed throughout the Maluku islands. People have been living in tents or shacks since the earthquake; the frequent rainy seasons add to their difficulties due to leaking structures and the threat of flooding. BEATS sent 4 grants during 2020 for essential supplies, however, BEATS are now providing funds to rebuild or repair houses; the slideshow shows houses that BEATS have so far been able to rebuild. Many more people still need a permanent roof over their head, please consider helping, it currently costs approximately £1,500 to rebuild a house.

BEATS support Ambon earthquake victims through this home-rebuilding project, a child sponsorship programme (see Sponsor Page), and a loan scheme for start-up businesses.

Business Micro Loans

BEATS has provided GBI Bethel Church, Ambon with a sum of money that can be lent to people to enable them to start a business. As and when the money is repaid it is then lent to others so that, in time, communities can benefit from the dignity of being able to provide for themselves and for their family.
