BEATS is a small charity, with no employees, only volunteers. It maintains a close and personal relationship between its supporters and projects, so that groups and individuals are able to choose to support people and projects to which they can relate.

Towards the first trip in April 2025 to Mandalay, Myanmar, BEATS sent £2,500 from donors to assist the victims of this devastating earthquake. Elmer, BEATS YSI partner (who is very capable in disaster situations), went with an international team for a week in collaboration with local churches, distributing disaster relief essential supplies and providing psychological support for children. BEATS have received a detailed financial report on monies spent, photos, videos and narrative. BEATS donations were used for sleeping mats, hygiene packs, snacks for 300 children and transport and food for volunteers. Hundreds of people have already been helped in at least 3 areas.
Elmer and team will return to Myanmar on 14th May for 1 week. BEATS has already received over £1,300 in donations towards this trip and hope to receive a further £2,700. BEATS primarily operates in Indonesia, collaborating with five organisations. We partner with GBI Church in Ambon (E Indonesia) to aid earthquake victims through home rebuilding, child sponsorship and a start-up business loan program. Additionally in Sumatra (NW Indonesia) we work alongside YSI, which conducts disaster preparedness and runs micro enterprise schemes as well as YACAN and YASAH who operate Children's Homes. YASERA helps communities with disaster preparedness along with health and development programmes in various locations in Indonesia.
Sarah Page visited all the projects during a month-long visit during February and March. Ian Phillips accompanied her for the first 2 weeks, when they visited the Sumatra based projects. They had constructive discussions with the various team leaders and also met many of the people who are currently receiving support, or have been supported in the past. Sarah then went on to visit BEATS' partners in Ambon and Bali to view the various projects being undertaken in those places. She went on 12 planes, 4 boats, and many car and motorbike journeys, and wants to express her thanks to those who prayed faithfully for her during her trip.
The photo shows Sarah and Ian on Nias Island with Destin, a young midwife who has a vision to set up the first midwifery clinic on the island. BEATS have so far provided funding for the land seen behind, more funds will be required to bring this exciting project to fruition.
The Leunufna family (Dad, Mum, their 3 children aged 9,7 & 3) live in a house built on a steep slope. They were very afraid when the earthquake happened, the house was badly damaged and the foundations moved (see photo). The new house is nearly complete, work is being completed in the kitchen & bathroom area on the lower level.
